What is AddUp?
AddUp is a browser extension and mobile app (soon) that helps you maximize your credit card rewards by providing real-time, retailer-specific comparison of the rewards you would earn on each of your credit cards. To learn more, please visit our about page.
How do I get AddUp on my browser?
Head over to the Chrome Web Store for extensions and search for ‘AddUp Rewards’, or follow this link. Then click the ‘Add to Chrome’ button to install the extension:
Next, pin AddUp to your taskbar so you don’t miss out on earning alerts. To do this, click the puzzle piece icon in the upper right corder of your browser, and then click the push pin icon next to AddUp:
Finally, open AddUp by clicking the icon in the browser, create an account, and select your cards from a list (no sensitive card or account information required).
Thats it! You’ll now get alerts whenever one of your cards has extra rewards at the retailers you visit.
How does AddUp work?
While you shop online, AddUp calculates the rewards each of your credit cards offers for each retailer you visit. When you open the extension, the each of your selected credit cards are displayed along with the reward offered for the website you’re on, as well as additional messages about bonus offers or promotions.
When you visit a retailer for which one of your cards has extra rewards, a gold badge will appear on the extension icon:
When you’re on a checkout page, the AddUp icon will turn gold, like this:
Note that you won’t be able to see any of these indicators unless the AddUp icon is visible to your browser’s toolbar, so be sure to pin the extension to your toolbar (to do this, select click the puzzle piece icon near the upper righthand corner of the browser window, and then click the pin icon next to the AddUp icon).
Additionally, AddUp can provide notifications at checkout to help you remember to use the card that you don’t miss out on opportunities to earn. Notification preferences can be set on the ‘Account’ tab of the extension window.
Why do I need to create an account?
In order to alert you to earning opportunities, AddUp needs to know what cards you have, and how you want to be notified. If you didn’t create an account, all of the information you provide would need to be re-entered every time you restart your browser. Having an account simply allows this information to persist between sessions (note that no sensitive card or account information is ever collected or stored by AddUp Rewards).
How much does AddUp cost?
Nothing – AddUp is free to use!
How does AddUp notify me of opportunities to earn more rewards?
If you have enabled browser notifications on the ‘Account’ page, AddUp will create a popup notification when you are on the payment section of a checkout page of a retailer for which our records indicate that one or more of your cards rewards above the amount you receive on all purchases. Additionally, any time you are on a retailer’s website for which one of your cards offers rewards above the base rate, a small orange square with a ‘%’ symbol will appear on the toolbar icon. Finally, any time you are on the payment section of a checkout page, the background of the toolbar icon will change from blue to orange.
